Facts about Greek food

Greek food is one of the strongest memories every visitor has from Greece. The use of olive oil, herbs, fresh vegetables, fruits and traditional recipes, combined with a glass of local wine, turn even the simplest dish to a memory to remember.  Greek food is part of the famous “Mediterranean Diet”, a unique combination of tasty, healthy and balanced way of cooking, the benefits of which have been proven scientifically by many studies.

Cretans have found the key to longevity. They consume anything that their rich ground produces. Fruits, vegetables, greens, cheese, bread. Cretans use herbs to add taste to their meal. They often use honey instead of sugar for sweets, and olive oil instead of butter. Meat was not usually consumed a few decades ago, and only on special occasions.

Fruits  play an important role in Cretan diet. It has been found that Cretans consume more fruits than any other European. Crete produces a large variety of fruits. Oranges, apples, grapes, melons, watermelons, lemons and other. There is no need to write anything about the great impact fruits have in health.

Ever wondered how they make all these wonderful dishes like stuffed vegetables,  Mousaka, Souvlaki, Beans, various meat dishes like “sfakiano” “tsigariasto”, or simple salads, Dakos, tzatziki, and many many more?  You can now learn how to cook them, guided by our chef Stavrula. Her long experience in traditional cooking will give you the chance to learn, enjoy, and share your new acquired skills.

The classes offer a very good understanding of Greek Cooking, as many information are given during the class. They also offer a good chance to meet other people with the same interest, and combined with the relaxing atmosphere during the classes, it will add a special memory to your vacation.
